Hair Botox Is The Secret To Shiny, Voluminous Locks

Just like our skin, our locks can use a boost of rejuvenation now and then. Enter hair botox, the restorative treatment designed to bring new life to your tresses.

Not a fan of needles? Don’t fret—hair botox earns its name from the smoothing effect it has on the strands (much like the wrinkle-smoothing power of botox), so this treatment is completely injection-free! In reality, hair botox is a deep conditioning treatment that repairs damage and strengthens the hair structure. The results? Silky, shiny, voluminous locks that are frizz-free and moisturized.

Who Is Hair Botox For?

“This treatment is designed for all hair types,” says Karol Ann Tousignant, hairstylist at Donald Proulx salon in Montreal. Straight, wavy, curly and coily locks alike can reap the benefits of a hair botox treatment, which provides particularly noticeable results on damaged hair. Both virgin and colour-treated hair are candidates for this repairing treatment, but it’s recommended to do hair botox at least two days before colouring to let the formula penetrate, and because the clarify- ing shampoo used in the treatment can alter the colour of dyed hair.

How Does Hair Botox Work?

Hair botox typically takes between two and three hours. The stylist begins the treatment by shampoo- ing your locks, then applies the hair botox to damp hair. The formula is left in the hair anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes (depending on your hair texture and desired result) to pro- cess and work its magic. The hair botox then gets rinsed out, and the process is rounded out by blowdrying and flat ironing the hair to seal the product in. Afterward, it’s recommended to wait at least two days before washing the hair again, to ensure that the treatment penetrates deeply. As the treatment deeply hydrates and conditions, you may feel like your hair is being weighed down slightly, but this is temporary and this heaviness will wash away after your first shampoo, revealing your newly hydrated, bouncy locks.

The Results

The benefits of hair botox can last from two to four months, depending on how often you wash your hair and your maintenance routine. Choose shampoos and conditioners without sulfates and ingredients like keratin and protein that can actually overload the hair fibre, making it more brittle and prone to breakage. To maintain results without overdoing it, Tousignant recommends hair botox treatments every two to four months, depending on the dryness of your hair. If you’re unsure, a quick consultation with your hairstylist will help you assess the needs of your strands and determine the best treatment schedule for your hair type.

How Much Does Hair Botox Cost?

Hair botox typically ranges from $100 to $300, depending on the length and thickness of the hair, as well as the salon, stylist and specific treatment chosen.
