After all, it is their home too! As well-meaning as they are, it’s easy for little claws and teeth to leave a mark on our furniture. 

When choosing furnishings, it’s best to find materials that can withstand the inevitable scratches and stains that come with owning a pet. Here’s how to make your home more durable for your furry friends.

Pet-friendly flooring

When it comes to flooring, it’s all about choosing a scratch-resistant material. While hardwood is a classically beautiful option, it can be particularly prone to marks. 

Tiles

Tiles are a great option for nails clicking across the floor. Whether you prefer stone, ceramic, or porcelain, tiles are generally scratch-resistant, especially if they’re sealed.

Luxury vinyl

If you love the look of hardwood but don’t want it to get ruined, a luxury vinyl flooring is a suitable alternative. It’s typically more affordable than hardwood and is thought to be more comfortable under you and your pets’ feet. Choose a waterproof version for extra easy cleaning.

Carpet

For obvious reasons, carpets can be prone to stains from your pets. They can also retain fur and dander, making them tricky to clean. If you’re set on plush flooring, we suggest a smooth nylon fabric or placing rug pads underneath to help soak up liquids.
