No Time To Work Out Every Day? Working Out On The Weekend Could Be Just As Beneficial

A new study reveals the benefits of a weekend workout practice.

While some people find time to hit the gym multiple times a week, others wait until the weekend to lace up their running shoes, roll out their yoga mat, or participate in other physical activities. But can “weekend warriors” expect to get the same benefits as a regular workout throughout the week? The answer may surprise you.

Does a weekend workout have the same impact as a weekday workout?

Between work, managing children and multiple daily obligations, finding time to exercise can seem like an impossible task. Saving exercise for the weekend becomes a pragmatic solution. A recent study of 75,000 people published Natural Aging found that those who focused their physical activity only on the weekends experienced similar benefits to those who did it more regularly. Incorporating moderate to vigorous physical activity can reduce the risk of conditions such as dementia, stroke, Parkinson's disease, as well as anxiety and depression disorders.

The results show that it doesn't matter whether this activity is spread over several days or concentrated on a weekend: as long as you accumulate at least 150 minutes of physical effort per week, the health benefits are there.

Exercising to stay healthy

Exercise has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that protect the brain from the damaging effects of inflammation and free radicals. It also improves cerebral blood flow, increasing the supply of energy, nutrients, and oxygen to neurons, which supports cognitive performance. These findings encourage a more flexible approach to physical activity. Whether you’re a regular weekday workout or a weekend workout only type of person, the important thing is to get moving.
