5 Foods You Need To Dip In Cheese Fondue
When the weather gets cooler, there’s nothing that warms us up more than an ooey, gooey cheese fondue.
But what to dip in your velvety sauce? Here are five foods you have to try on your next fondue night.
1. Bread
A cheese fondue must-have is, of course, fresh bread.
- Baguette bread: cut into cubes, it’s the essential classic
- Olive or nut bread: to add a touch of crunch and extra flavours
- Rye bread: for a more pronounced taste
2. Vegetables
To add a touch of freshness to this rich meal, serve a variety of vegetables. Pro tip: since these will not cook in the fondue, we recommend blanching, steaming, or grilling them before serving.
- Potatoes: small steamed or roasted potatoes
- Cauliflower, broccoli and carrots: blanched or lightly steamed
- Mushrooms: fresh or grilled
- Pickled gherkins and onions: for a little touch of acidity
3. Meats
Dip spears of cooked or deli meat into your tasty fondue for some extra protein. Unlike a traditional meat fondue, make sure your bite-sized pieces are cooked before they go into your sauce.
- Black Forest ham, prosciutto or sausage: for a salty touch
- Salami or dry sausage: thinly sliced
- Thinly sliced beef: pre-cooked before serving
4. Fruit
Are you a fan of sweet and savoury combinations? It's an accompaniment that's as surprising as it is decadent.
- Apples or pears: sliced to add a sweet note that contrasts with the cheese
- Grapes: for a crunchy and delicious sweet and salty combination
5. Condiments
Top your cheese-dipped nibbles with bright condiments and sauce for an extra kick.
- Onion or fig chutney: perfect with cheese for an explosion of contrasting flavours
- Old-fashioned mustard: with its crunchy grains, it adds texture and a tangy flavour
- Dijon mustard: for a stronger, spicier note
- Jams: for a sweet and salty combination
