4 Reasons Why You Should Stop Peeling Your Apples
Do you peel your apples before eating them? Discover 4 reasons why you shouldn't.
1. Apple Peels Are Rich In Fibre
Apples are rich in fibre, which promotes gut health. However, removing the peel can cost you up to 40 percent of that fibre content! Keep it on to get all that you can.
2. Apple Peels Are Full Of Pectin
Apples naturally contain pectin, a type of dietary fibre that aids in digestion and helps control cholesterol and blood sugar. Pectin also helps to manage appetite by limiting hunger pangs, making them a perfect snack when paired with a little protein and fat. Most of the pectin is found in the peel, so don't take it off!
3. Apples Are Rich In Vitamin C
Eating a whole apple gives you 10 percent of your daily requirement of vitamin C. This vitamin is present in large quantities in the skin of the fruit and helps strengthen the immune system, reduce inflammation and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
4. Apple Are Full Of Antioxidants
Apples contain a lot of quercetin. This is an antioxidant with multiple benefits such as:
- improving cardiovascular health
- reducing blood pressure
- lowering cholesterol
- reducing free radicals in the body
- reducing inflammation
Most quercetin is found in the—you guessed it—peel!
