#WeTheCurvy: Fall trends for every body
Cooler temps mean you can finally break out your fall favourites. Our #WeTheCurvy columnist, Meredith Shaw, took the biggest trends and whittled them down to five essential pieces that embody the season.
The air is starting to feel crisp, sandals are being packed away and pumpkin-spiced lattes are about to roll out. Yes, it’s officially the end of summer. I’m sad to see it go, but skin-baring sundresses can only take this curvy ginger so far. As we sashay into autumn, I can’t help but get excited. Give me a sleeve, show me some structure and let me layer!
1. Tailored Blazer
Proper fit and structure are a curvy woman’s friends. A tailored blazer feels like a million bucks and gives your shape killer contour. Even if you’re not planning on wearing it done up, make sure it can close comfortably and that it fits in the shoulders without any pulling.
Michel Studio blazer (sizes 12 to 26), $118, additionelle.com.
2. Pencil Skirt
Women with curvy frames don’t need to avoid these tailored skirts—truth be told, fitted clothing is always more flattering than extra volume. High-tech fabrics with good stretch now allow us to rock a pencil skirt without feeling constricted.
Lace pencil skirt (sizes 14 to 26), $60, hm.com/ca.
3. Transitional Topper
Basically a lightweight coat—something you could wear inside or out—a transitional topper is like the cherry on top of your outfit sundae. Your look would work without it, but with it, you’ re making a major sartorial statement with little effort.
Uranium coat (sizes 4 to 18), $450, melowparmelissabolduc.com.
4. Velvet Everything
The fabric of the season is so wonderfully soft you’ll want your entire wardrobe to be made out of this chic material. The juxtaposition of velvet with casual wardrobe staples like jeans or a slouchy bomber equates to automatic style.
Velvet bomber (size XS to XXL), $59, joefresh.com.
5. Oversize Sweater
Too soon for turtlenecks, but too late for tanks? As the cool temperatures set in, especially in evening, we need something that’s equal parts cozy and stylish. From brunch with the girls to curling up on the couch with your paramour, an oversize knit sweater is the way to go.
Cable-knit sweater (sizes XXS to 3X), $55, reitmans.com.
