How to transition your wardrobe for fall
The chillier, cozier autumn air will soon be upon us, and that means it's time to start thinking about pulling out the sweaters and boots.
Adapting your wardrobe to the changing seasons can be a real headache, especially if you're used to putting away your summer clothes to make way for the warmer pieces of fall and winter. But what if we told you that you can reuse many of your favourite summer staples during September and October?
THE BENEFITS OF ADAPTING CLOTHES TO DIFFERENT SEASONS
In addition to saving your wallet by investing in versatile, quality, and timeless pieces, adapting your clothes to the different seasons allows you to reconnect with your wardrobe while having fun creating new and different looks with items you already own.
There's no need to say goodbye to your favourite flirty summer skirts and linen pieces; just reinvent them by adding a pair of tights or slipping on a pretty sweater. Chunky knits and silk slips skirts are one trend we are seeing all over New York Fashion Week.
LINEN, NOT JUST FOR SUMMER
We know you live in linen during the summer—its lightness and comfort can't be beat. But it's good to know that linen's natural temperature-regulating properties mean it can keep you warm even in cooler weather!
The key is to layer different pieces of clothing. For example, you can combine linen trousers with a jacket, oversized woollens, lace-up shoes, shaft boots, and so on.
Although linen makes the art of mixing different pieces more complex, the important thing is to play with the different lengths of garment and, above all, different fabrics and textures. Have fun!
A FEW TIPS TO EASE THE TRANSITION WITHOUT INVESTING IN NEW ITEMS
- Replace summer sandals in your go-to outfit with pretty autumn ankle boots
- Wear tall boots with dresses, skirts, and even trousers
- Add layers: thrown on a jacket or blazer on pretty much any outfit for a sophisticated edge
- Go for uniform, dark, timeless colours (grey is huge this season!)
Finally, don't be afraid to play with accessories. Hats, scarves, ponchos, and fun jackets can enhance your autumn outfits!
