How to find the perfect pair of heels
A great pair of heels is often what we need to add a splash of colour to our wardrobe, transform business wear to evening wear or simply revamp an outfit from last year. "The right pair of pumps can act as a statement piece. Over the past season we've seen lots of statement bags and jewelry, this year it's time for the shoe to shine," says Julia McEwen, fashion and beauty assistant editor at
Canadian Living magazine. "Just remember, shoes can make or break an outfit, so it's important to choose just the right pair to complement your ensemble."
Luckily, finding the perfect pair of heels this season is not going to be a problem. McEwen recommends opting for a pair of colourful heels in a lively print or exotic texture, as seen on all the runways.
As for heel height? "This year you're going to notice towering heels, but done in a chunky or stacked heel with the addition of a platform bottom. This allows you to go higher but still be comfortable ... well as comfortable as four inch heels can be!," McEwen says. However, she reassures that for those who would rather stay closer to the ground, there are fabulous shoes with a lower heel available too.
If you're only going to splurge on one pair of shoes, McEwen suggests a classic almond toe pump with a wearable heel and hidden platform (see The perfect pump, below) in classic black or charcoal gray. "This is the one must-have shoe that every woman should have in her closet - it will take you all around town and works with any outfit," she says.
Here are more stylish picks from Canadian Living fashion insiders.
Ray of sunshine

Marigold yellow jacket, $255; red, brown and yellow sheer floral blouse, $125; brown cotton/polyester straight-leg pants, $125. All Anne Klein.
