Dos and don'ts of dressing for spring

Ah, spring! Finally – it's time to pack away those bulky wool sweaters. Hide them away, ladies; you won't need them for a few months. As we head into spring, the look is all about being light and leisurely. Embrace spring fashion's fun colours and breezy fabrics but beware fashion faux pas, with our guide to being a fashion vixen, not a fashion victim!

DO wear T-shirt dresses with fun, vibrant prints. They're all the rage this season but make sure you find the right fit.
DON'T wear one that's too long or ill-fitting. These casual-but-sexy dresses should show off all your best assets and shouldn't fall below the knee.

DO go bold with colour this season. Say yes, yes, yes to everything bold and bright. Think fuchsia, tangerine, aquamarine and lemon.
DON'T be a downer by sporting black or grey on a sunny afternoon out and about town.

DO opt for modern metallic accessories. Add a hit of silver or gold to your wardrobe in the form of belts, hairbands or sexy sandals.
DON'T kill the shining look by going overboard. That floor-length metallic skirt needs to stay on the hanger in the store. Trust us; it looks better there.

DO go undercover in a sexy trench coat. Be ready for April showers with a light-coloured trench, perfect for cooler spring days.
DON'T buy something that's oversize. A trench coat should be fitted and accentuate the lovely lines of your body. Look for a style that just skims your knee, for the most flattering fit.

DO show off those legs! We're not talking micro-minis; elegant pencil skirts are the way to go.
DON'T go crazy with patterns. Keep it simple with solid-coloured skirts in light spring colours.

DO invest in a killer pair of oversize sunglasses. Go for the Audrey Hepburn or Jackie O look with big shades, available in a variety of styles.
DON'T go too big, like Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice. Remember that oversize is relative to the size of your face. Try on a few different styles to find the one that suits you best.

DO add a few feminine blouses to your spring wardrobe. This season, the look is light, frilly and pretty. Look for styles with ruffled or bell sleeves and delicate details in airy fabrics like chiffon.
DON'T wear structured, button-down shirts. Save those for next winter.

DO invest in a fab pair of wedge sandals. This trendy look is here to stay. Wedge heels offer great height and show off sexy legs when worn with sundresses, plus they provide more comfort than stilettos.
DON'T wear wedges that are too high for you to walk in. Nothing's worse than not being comfortable in your own shoes.
