5 Tips for Choosing the Perfect Swimsuit

With summer just around the corner, it's the perfect time to pick out a new swimsuit!

Whether you're headed to the pool, the beach, lounging in the park or paddle boarding on the lake, you need a versatile, cute swimsuit.

Here's how to find a style that suits your summer activities, flatters your body and makes you feel great.

1. Prioritize Quality

Opting for a high-quality swimsuit might mean spending a bit more (typically between $100 and $200), but it's worth the investment. A good suit will last longer and retain its shape and support after many uses. Instead of buying a $40 swimsuit every summer, invest in a quality piece that can last you three to four years with proper care. Quality guarantees better support and durability, even after multiple washes.

2. Consider Your Body Type

Your swimsuit should enhance your favourite features. For instance, if you want to "camouflage" a fuller midsection, opt for prints like floral motifs around the abdomen. To balance out broad shoulders, go for thin straps or halter styles. A square neckline can showcase a larger bust, while low-rise bottoms can flatter pronounced hips.

3. Think About Your Beach Activities

The type of swimsuit you need can vary based on your favourite summer activities. A swimsuit for sunbathing is different from one for active water sports like surfing or paddle boarding. For water sports, look for a top with underwire and reinforced cups for extra support.

4. Choose the Right Material

To ensure your swimsuit is comfortable and durable, pay attention to materials. Nylon and polyester are chlorine-resistant, while elastane offers great flexibility and freedom of movement.

5. Care for Your Swimsuit Properly

Once you've found a swimsuit you love, take good care of it to make it last. Wash it gently after each wear, just like you would with underwear. Use a mild soap specifically designed for swimwear and lingerie to remove salt, sunscreen and sweat. Finally, hang it to dry in the shade to prevent fading from the sun. Avoid using the dryer!
