Body oils to cleanse and moisturize your skin
“There’s a misconception that using oils will make your skin oily,” says Fresh cofounder Lev Glazman. “Actually, oil removes oil and also rebalances the dermis.” While old-school soaps and harsh cleansers strip your skin—cleaning it, sure, but also removing the good stuff that makes it soft and moisturized—cleansing oils pull out dirt and impurities without stripping. “As the oil you apply mixes with the oil already on your skin—including sebum—they attract each other,” says Lucy Primrose, senior director of learning and organizational development for L’Occitane North America. “When the oil cleanser is washed away, so are the ‘bad’ oils.” Body oils used to hydrate in lieu of typical creams are incredibly nourishing and help restore the ever-important lipid layer to retain moisture in the skin.
Application tip: Apply it post-bath to towel-dried skin. “Gently warm the oil on the pads of your fingers,” says Primrose, “and take a moment to breathe in the scent and feel the benefits of the essential oils.” Then, massage the liquid into your skin to stimulate circulation and promote better absorption.
