1. Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer Intense Radiance Lipgloss (colour tested: Sesame), $30
Shine: 10/10
Stickiness: 7/10
Moisture: 8/10
Tester says: "This gloss has gorgeous sheen and a very pleasant taste -- almost like candy! Application is about as effortless as it comes -- a tube with a wand and a really soft applicator. It's a bit too sticky, but definitely long-lasting and the formula is concentrated enough that it keeps your lips moisturized. Plus the packaging is super sleek and looks great in my clear tote bag."
Available at Chanel beauty counters
Cake Kiss Silky Smooth Sheer Lip Butter (colour tested: Whipped Pink Berry Cream), $10
Shine: 5/10
Stickiness: 6/10
Moisture: 10/10
Tester says: "This stuff lasts and lasts -- my lips are soft all morning, and when I reapply after lunch, it stays on all afternoon. It's more like a moisturizer than a 'gloss' per se -- it's sensible and my mother would be proud, but the whisper of pink keeps me looking fresh, not pale and sticky. It smells like those '80s scratch-and-sniff stickers. I would highly recommend it for daytime wear."
Available at select stores across Canada and cakebeauty.com
3. Quo Lip Gloss (colour tested: Dreamy), $12 Shine: 10/10
Stickiness: 9/10
Moisture: 7/10
Tester says: "I really love the colour I tried -- it's that neutral brown you see on celebrities with darker skin tones. The applicator is a bristle brush, so you need to paint the gloss on, which takes longer than your typical product. It lasts about two hours, so I had to keep reapplying through the day. I'm not crazy about the tangy coconut smell, but I don't mind because it looks so great."
Available at Shoppers Drug Mart; visit shoppersdrugmart.ca for stores
4. Maybelline Shiny-licious lip gloss (colour tested: clear), $6.79 Shine: 7/10
Stickiness: 2/10
Moisture: 8/10
Tester says: "What's not to like about this clear gloss? I can wear it on its own or on top of another colour, and it has very little smell or taste. The applicator is a good shape and nice and soft, and it moisturizes without being too sticky."
Available at drugstores
5. Rimmel London Sweet Jelly Sheer Lipgloss (colour tested: Moreish), $6.99 Shine: 7/10
Stickiness: 2/10
Moisture: 7/10
Tester says: "The product is in a little tube that you squeeze, and the applicator is slanted so there's lots of surface area. It has a very sweet taste and smell, perfect when you're feeling sugary. You do have to keep applying pretty often, and it's easy to squeeze too much out of the applicator, but I love this gloss for when I'm in the mood for a sweet, sheer shade of pink."
Available at drugstores
6. M.A.C Tendertone Lip Balm SPF 12 (colour tested: Warm Smile), $17.50 Shine: 7/10
Stickiness: 6/10
Moisture: 8/10
Tester says: "I like this natural-looking gloss with its great candy taste. It's pretty long-lasting -- the shine dulls a little over time, but it keeps my lips moist and makes it through almost an entire meal. The one thing I don't like is that it's in a tub -- there's no built-in applicator, so I have to use my finger. While I like the control this gives me over how much I use and where it goes, I'm always looking for a place to wipe off the excess from my hand -- usually my jeans. But overall, it's great: nice shine, nice scent, nice colour and great texture."
Available at maccosmetics.com, M.A.C stores and M.A.C Counters at The
Bay nationwide.
Shine: 3/10
Stickiness: 2/10
Moisture: 5/10
Tester says: "I love the light metallic colour of this gloss. The sponge-tipped applicator makes it easy to apply, and I needed to reapply every half hour or so. It has no smell or taste to speak of, which I don't like -- I prefer my lip gloss to smell yummy -- but it would be perfect for someone who's looking for a scent-free product."
Available at drugstores
8. Origins Once Upon A Shine Sheer Lip Gloss (colour tested: Sheer Fruit Punch), $16.50Shine: 6/10
Stickiness: 2/10
Moisture: 9/10
Tester says: "I never wear lipstick and rarely find a lip gloss that suits me. This one stays on nicely, has just enough shine with just enough sparkles and has a pleasantly minty smell, taste and feel -- and it's amazingly not sticky! It stays on for a decent amount of time, and frequent applications aren't necessary. I do find the wand applicator difficult to use, but I love the product's essential oils and the fact that the packaging contains 20 per cent postconsumer recycled materials. I would definitely buy this product."
Available at select Bay locations and at origins.com
9. Alba TerraGloss (colour tested: Bloom), $6Shine: 8/10
Stickiness: 2/10
Moisture: 8/10
Tester says: "This gloss comes in a squeeze tube and I put it on with my finger. Bloom is a pale natural colour that I'm comfortable applying even when I don't have a mirror. It has no taste or smell, which is just the way I like it, and although it does need reapplying fairly often, it keeps my lips lovely and soft."

10. Revlon Midnight Swirl Lipgloss (colour tested: A Currant Affair), $15.50Shine: 6/10
Stickiness: 7/10
Moisture: 9/10
Tester says: "The sheer red wine colour of this gloss is trendy, flattering and dramatic. It has a tiny bit of sparkle, which is perfect for me -- too much sparkle is not kind to aging skin. It's very shiny after applying but over time, the shine fades, although the colour lasts longer, more like a lipstick. The applicator is a lip brush on the end of a wand, which I need to apply in front of a mirror. Like many glosses, this product has a low kissability rating, so go for something more subtle if there are smooches in your immediate future. This gloss kept my lips soft and moisturized -- it's going in my purse for sure."
Available at drugstores
11. CARGO Purse Gloss (colour tested: Montreal), $16Shine: 9/10
Stickiness: 5/10
Moisture: 10/10
Tester says: "I love the colour, a chocolatey mocha with a touch of pink -- it suits my skin tone and is perfect for a gloss. There's no smell or taste, which is good in my opinion, and it lasts for a couple of hours without reapplying. It's really easy to apply and has a fantastic applicator, a built-in lip brush -- you squeeze the tube to release the gloss through the bristles. Overall this is a really great lip gloss, with a really good balance between its moisturizing qualities and how long it lasts, without the stickiness you find too often in other glosses."
Available at select stores and sephora.com; visit cargocosmetics.com for retailers
12. Origins Liquid Lip Shimmer (colour tested: Sangria), $16.50Shine: 8/10
Stickiness: 4/10
Moisture: 9/10
Tester says: "I like the soft minty taste -- it's not overpowering, just enough to make my lips tingle a bit. It lasts about an hour, if I don't drink or eat anything, and after the shine fades, I'm still left with a bit of shimmer. I like its standard sponge applicator, which allows for easy distribution. Sangria is a shimmering sheer pink that should suit most skin tones. It makes my lips look like they have a hint of colour, which makes it a perfect daytime look."
Available at select Bay locations and at origins.com
13. Rimmel Vinyl Gloss High Shine Lip Gloss (colour tested: Crystal Clear), $6.49Shine: 10/10
Stickiness: 10/10
Moisture: 7/10
Tester says: "This clear, tasteless gloss is great for adding over lipstick. It's easy to apply -- the sponge tip applicator means it doesn't goop on too much -- and lasts about an hour. It's super high-shine, so if you like that kind of drama, it's perfect, although perhaps a bit much for everyday. I would use it for a night out with some red lipstick to make my lips shine!"
Available at drugstores
14. Benefit Her Glossiness V.I.P. Lip Gloss (colour tested: Life on the A List), $20Shine: 9/10
Stickiness: 2/10
Moisture: 9/10
Tester says: "The colour is a light rose pink -- I love it! It's a very subtle hue that keeps your look natural. The yummy formula smells like honey, and it lasts for hours -- I only had to reapply after a meal. It has a nice sheen without being too glossy, and leaves your lips moisturized and glossy without any gumminess or stickiness. This gloss is perfect for daywear."
Available at select cosmetics counters and sephora.com; visit benefitcosmetics.com for stores
15. Dr. Hauschka Novum Lip Gloss (colour tested: Berry), $26.95Shine: 7/10
Stickiness: 3/10
Moisture: 6.5/10
Tester says: "Berry is a wine colour that goes on semitransparent. It smells like cake -- delicious! It's rare to find a gloss that tastes and smells this good, and putting something on my lips that doesn't feel or smell chemically or fake is important to me. Unfortunately, it doesn't last long because it makes me lick my lips too much! The sponge applicator is easy to use and I have to reapply about once an hour. This gloss is not goopy, looks natural and has a luxurious feel."
Available at select stores; visit drhauschka.ca for retailers
16. Aveda Lip Shine (colour tested: Juneberry), $20Shine: 8/10
Stickiness: 5/10
Moisture: 7/10
Tester says: "Juneberry is a little pinker than I would normally wear, but it's a nice light shade for summer. The taste and smell are almost medicinal, but not in a bad way. It's definitely not a fruity-smelling lip gloss. It's got a bit of a minty taste and leaves your lips tingling. It lasts for a long time, although I definitely had to reapply after a meal. I like the applicator, a squeeze tube -- the gloss goes on smoothly and it's easy to apply and keep it within the lines of your lips."
Available at Aveda Experience Centers; visit aveda.com for locations
17. Guerlain KissKiss Gloss (colour tested: 866 Figue Plaisir), $31Shine: 7/10
Stickiness: 9/10
Moisture: 7/10
Tester says: "I love the neutral yet extremely flattering colour of this gloss, and the level of shine is perfect for me -- I don't go for ultra-high-shine lips. It's a bit sticky for my liking, so it's a better look with ponytails and updos than with long, flowing hair, especially on a windy day. The brush applicator means you're better off applying in front of a mirror, but it lasts long enough -- a couple of hours plus, depending on how well you leave it alone -- that it's not an inconvenience. And even as the gloss fades, it leaves behind a subtle colour and moisturized look that are miles ahead of bare lips."
Available at department stores and Guerlain boutiques across Canada
