Sun safety is more important than ever, which is why brands always try to up the ante when it comes to UVA/UVB protection come summertime. Here are some of the new sunscreens from the tried-and-true brands you rely on. Bonus? They can all be found at your local drugstore.
Hawaiian Tropic
Though you may reach for Hawaiian Tropic for the nostalgia factor, the brand introduced a weightless face sunscreen in 2017. The super light and soft texture won’t clog pores, so there’s no excuse not to put it on daily. Broad spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays comes primarily via the chemical filters Avobenzone and Homosalate.

Ombrelle
The latest from Ombrelle is a weightless lotion in the form of a spray. It leaves skin feeling non-greasy and non-sticky plus it’s water resistant and provides up to 80 minutes of sun protection thanks to Homosalate and Oxybenzone.

Vichy
The French brand released a sport-specific sunscreen this season. It offers broad spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays in a super light cream formula. You can apply to wet or dry skin, and it is water and sweat resistant for up to 80 minutes. The SPF 60 comes from the filter ingredient Mexoryl, an organic compound known for its photostability.

The cheeky monikered brand Sun Bum recently launched a face cream that includes broad spectrum SPF coverage along with skin-care ingredients like aloe vera and vitamin E. Protection comes via a combination of physical (zinc oxide) and chemical (octinoxate) filters, and the formula is paraben free, cruelty-free and alcohol-free.
