The elegance of a french twist and the ease of a topknot—it's your new favourite updo

Elegant, easy and quick: the 'do of summer is all about buns.

Take your summer hair cues from such pop culture heavy hitters as Daisy Ridley's character, Rey, in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rooney Mara at this year's Oscars: It's all about stackable multibuns. "It's more than a bun," says Plutino Group hair and makeup artist Aniya Nandy. "It's like a topknot and a French twist merged." For this style, forget perfection and embrace air-dried hair for a slightly dishevelled look.

Step 1: Spritz your hair with a sea-salt spray or dry shampoo. Then, use your fingers to pull back half of your hair, starting about an inch above your ears and secure with a small elastic.

Step 2: Divide the half-pony in two and weave the two sections into a tight twist, securing the end with another small elastic. Then, pull the twist apart to loosen. "You want to unsettle the hair to make it seem bigger," explains Nandy. Wrap the twist around the base of the ponytail, securing with both open and closed bobby pins.

Step 3: Repeat the above steps with the bottom half of your hair. Tip: "Make the second pony as close to the base of the first one as possible. This will make the hairstyle look more polished."

Step 4: Finish by pulling apart the hair for an even more dishevelled look, then spritz with a long-lasting hairspray.
