The best mascara for beautiful lashes—for volume, length or definition
Upgrade your lash game with one of these mascaras, which promise to lift, extend, curl or volumize lashes like never before.
Right now, the message is a beautiful one: individuality and customization. These inclusive ideas are being reflected in many beauty segments, particularly mascara. From Kardashian-level fringes to natural lashes to something in between, whatever your lash desires are, there’s a mascara that can make it happen.
Beauty note: A brand-new tube of mascara can transfer a ton of product onto the wand, which can cause clumping. Before swiping it on, glide it over a tissue to remove the excess formula.

Pick Your Wand
Mascaras come in various shapes, sizes and formulas. Here’s how to select one based on the natural state of your eyelashes.
For short lashes: A mascara brush shaped like a comb will help grab and coat every single lash with marginal clumping.
For straight lashes: A curved wand will hug your eyelashes from the root to
the tip, curling as you coat them.
For sparse lashes: A medium-size brush with fluffy bristles ensures that your lashes are coated, making them appear longer, fuller and more defined.

Lash Course
Kimberly Soane, Executive director of North America artistry for Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, tells us how to wield a wand like a pro.
1. Soane’s No. 1 tip for perfect mascara application is to curl the lashes first. “Gently push the lash curler at the base of your eyelashes,” she says. Stick to curling at the root only, never pulsing or pulling out, which can be damaging.
2. Tackle the centre of the lash line, then the outer corners. “Invert the wand so the tip is toward the outside of the eye,” says Soane. Then, press it into the roots and zigzag up.
3. “Whatever’s left on the wand will do the inner
section of the lashes, using that same motion,” says Soane.
Fringe Benefits
Is mascara not giving your lashes the love and support they need? Try one of these enhancing treatments and tools to bestow them with an extra level of drama.
Magnetic Lashes
Love them or hate them, before you write off falsies, try an easier-to-apply style. Although they look like two sets of strips, these versions make a lash sandwich—with your natural lashes being the filling and the magnetic lashes playing the role of bread.
Ardell Professional Magnetic Lashes, $24, walmart.ca.
Lash Serum
The trick to seeing results, as with any skin care, is daily use. This combo (one side for day, the other for night) uses active ingredients known to lengthen the eyelash growth cycle. Results will leave you with longer, denser and stronger lashes.
Jouviance Restructiv LashFX Lash & Brow Fortifying Serum + Tinted Primer, $75, jouviance.com.
Lash Curler
Choose a curler with a rubber pad instead of a sponge one. “You want a soft curl, and a sponge will crimp the lash,” says Soane. This Tweezerman curler has a wide silicone pad, which means eyelids are safe from pinching, regardless of the shape of your eyes.
