Coral lipstick is the perfect summery update to your beauty look
Consider coral your new spring lip, offering a punch of bright colour—without overwhelming your face.
Somewhere between pink and orange sits coral. This punchy pop of colour is not only bright and happy but also flattering for all complexions due to its variety of undertones.
Beauty Note: Let your lips be the star—stick to groomed brows and a swipe of mascara to complete the look.

Clarins national makeup artist and trainer Christine Mann shares her tips for picking a colour that complements your skin tone.
Fair: A pinkish base is the best for pale skin, says Mann. Make sure your pick has a cool undertone (red or blue), leaning more peach than orange.
Olive: “Almost anything goes!” says Mann. “Orange, fruity colours really suit an olive skin tone.” Think bright corals and warm shades of orange.
Dark: “Brighter colours are great,” says Mann. She recommends playing with finishes such as glossy and sheer.
PICK YOUR POTION
Plutino Group makeup artist Sheri Stroh shares her application tips for each kind of coral formula.
But first, prep
“Not only is dry, flaky skin unattractive,” says Stroh, “but it can also be painful, and lipstick will dry out your lips even more.” Make sure lips are moisturized and prepped before adding a swipe of coral to them.
Step 1: Use a heavy-duty balm or a lip-specific mask overnight to keep your lips protected and hydrated.
Step 2: Use a lip scrub in the morning to exfoliate, Or you can use a damp washcloth or your toothbrush.
Step 3: Apply a waxy, nongreasy balm under any pigment to protect your lips from drying out.
Now, find your formula
Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Oversized Orange, $22, clinique.ca. CoverGirl Melting Pout Gel Liquid Lipstick in Gel-ful, $11, covergirl.ca. Fresh Sugar Punch Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15, $29, sephora.ca. Nyx Cosmetics Butter Lipstick in Easy Livin’, $9, nyxcosmetics.ca.
Chubby Stick: “These are a one-stop shop,” says Stroh. They offer a precise application and, when you pick an opaque formula, loads of colour payoff. How to use: Apply straight from the pencil in a single step for an easy, achievable lip look.
Liquid: “Liquid lipsticks offer opaque colour in a thinner and longer-wearing formula,” says Stroh. How to use: Most liquid lipsticks are drying, so stave off flakiness by applying a nongreasy balm first. Once the balm has been absorbed, apply your liquid lipstick with a brush (for a more precise look) or with a doe-foot applicator.
Stain: “Much like glosses, stains are easy to use, and they’re what I recommend for people who aren’t used to bright colours,” says Stroh. How to use: Apply the colour to lips straight from the tube. Then, use your finger to dab the pigment into your lips, layering the stain until you’ve achieved the desired intensity.
Classic Lipstick: “Bullet-shaped lipsticks are classic and will never go away,” says Stroh. Plus, they offer options for application. How to use: Avoid an overly precise look by skipping the brush and applying lipstick straight from the tube. Soften the edges with a cotton swab for a more modern look.
