Pink Tartan SS15: A trip back to the seventies
One of the perks of being a beauty editor is getting to sneak backstage prior to fashion shows to see the makeup looks as they're being applied. Last night, the opening evening of World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto, Maybelline New York Canada lead makeup artist Grace Lee showed off her makeup design for Pink Tartan SS15. The inspiration? Seventies glamour in the form of gold and brown eye makeup and bronzed cheeks. Needless to say, the models looked flawless.
Lee's Maybelline New York makeup of choice included Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation in a shade darker than each model's skin tone applied only to the cheekbones to add definition, Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Bold Gold for glimmer on the eyelids, and various shades from The Nudes Eye Shadow Palette to contour the eyes.
After our sneak peek at the makeup look, all of the editors were excited to see the clothes—and we weren't disappointed. Designer Kim Newport-Mimran went in a different direction from her usual '50s or '60s ladylike runway showpieces. This season, she chose to focus on the sexy glamour of the '70s with a mix of pants, separates and bodysuits.
As shown above, jumpsuits were also a big part of Newport-Mimran's latest collection—from blousy, backless numbers to fitted printed suits and even a fringe-covered version to close out the show.
There were high-waisted trousers, fur stoles, fringed capes, silky blouses and long, fringed scarves.
The show featured styling by Zeina Esmail, who used platform heels, tassel necklaces and over-sized sunglasses to accentuate the seventies feel of the clothes. Our must-buys? The black jumpsuit, high-waisted white trousers and navy bow blouse, all as shown above.
