2013 Oscars: Red carpet fashion predictions
Most people tune into the
Oscars to see who's going to take home the coveted gold figurines, but that's not the number 1 draw for everyone. Fashion sleuths and beauty geeks are far more interested in who will win in the most contentious category: best dressed. I don't know how I watched red carpets pre-Twitter – it makes it SO much more enjoyable. I'll be live-tweeting my picks for hits and misses from the red carpet on Sunday night, along with a handful of style enthusiasts on the
Canadian Living staff.

Last year, Jessica Chastain was one of my
top three picks. She wore a custom Alexander McQueen gown crafted out of black silk organza and gold bullion metal thread. One of my biggest fashion weaknesses is the glorious colour combo of gold and black – meaning, that dress had me at hello. Chastain is one of the front-runners to win the Best Actress Award on Sunday, so all eyes will be on the bombshell ginger. I find most actresses pretty predictable when it comes to award season, but Chastain is a wild card. She's a style chameleon who is constantly shaking up the styles, cuts and colours of the dresses she chooses – or that her stylist chooses for her. Plus, her hair and makeup are all over the place, too. But in a good way. She always keeps me guessing. These are my red carpet predictions of what we might see her wearing on Sunday evening.
- SAFE BET: Alexander McQueen pre-fall 2013. Chastain wore McQueen to the award show last year and she didn't disappoint. Plus, she sported a white McQueen gown earlier this year to another red carpet event.
- RUNNER UP: Monique Lhuillier pre-fall 2013. This grey sequinned and embroidered cap-sleeved gown is simply stunning and the shape would look incredible on Chastain's svelte frame.
- WILD CARD: Elie Saab Haute Couture fall/winter 2012/2013. Maybe I picked this one because it's a gold, beaded and embroidered dress that's shot on a black background. Yes, that's why. But it's elaborately breathtaking and it would look incredible on the Zero Dark Thirty star.
