6 Cheap or Free Activities to Enjoy in Prince Edward County This Summer
Summer holidays are just around the corner! Are you considering a trip around Ontario?
If you love sandy beaches and turquoise waters but aren’t keen on flying, consider planning a day trip to Prince Edward County.
This region is also home to numerous farmers' markets, antique shops, and retro hotels and motels, making it a perfect destination for a road trip. However, be warned, summer visits can get pricey!
Here are 6 free (or inexpensive) activities to help you save money while enjoying Ontario's favourite county.
1. Explore Picton, Bloomfield and Wellington on Foot

The charm of Prince Edward County lies in its quaint villages. Spend hours strolling through Picton, Bloomfield and Wellington, where you'll find antique shops, farmers' markets, small cafés and revamped hotels and motels. Each town has its own personality, with plenty of spots to eat, shop or snap photos.
2. Follow the Barn Quilt Trail

Created to encourage exploration of rural communities, this trail features large blocks of wood hand-painted with traditional quilt designs, installed on barns. With over 100 barn quilts to discover, how many will you spot during your visit?
3. Walk the Sandbanks Dune Trail

Take the whole family on a short, easy 2.5 km hike along the Sandbanks Provincial Park Dune Trail. This fragile habitat is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna. In fact, this dune system is the largest of its kind in the world, making it a must-see. For those wanting a longer walk, a one-kilometre loop is available.
Admission to the park is $21 per vehicle, tax included.
4. Discover Local Art

Spend hours exploring local art through galleries, studios and public art installations. The Arts Trail is designed to guide you through a dozen locations showcasing sculptures, paintings, photographs, woodwork, prints, drawings, mixed media, furniture, glass, fabrics, ceramics and more.
5. Enjoy the Beautiful Beaches

Sandbanks is famous for its stunning beaches, and you won't want to miss them! Sandbanks Provincial Park features three large sandy beaches: Outlet Beach, ideal for families but also the busiest; Lakeshore Beach; and Dunes Beach. To avoid the crowds, head to North Beach Provincial Park, which is equally beautiful.

6. Bike Around the County

Prince Edward County is perfect for cycling between vineyards, market gardens and flea markets. Take the Millennium Trail, a 46-kilometre bike path, to explore the picturesque countryside.
