6 beauty must-haves for your carry-on luggage
There are one thousand and one things you can bring to make your flight more enjoyable: headphones, your favourite book, patience…
But if you want to avoid arriving at your destination with glassy eyes and a grey complexion, it's important to pack a few beauty essentials too. The air on planes is drier than normal and can cause minor discomfort for your skin.
Here are 6 beauty essentials to pack in your carry-on bag:
1. Thermal water spray
If your skin is feeling tight mid-flight, there's nothing like a little spritz of thermal water on your face! It provides hydration and freshens up your skin.
We recommend: Avène Thermal Spring Water, Shoppers Drugmart, $12.10
2. Lip balm
Eyes and lips are often the first to suffer from a lack of humidity in the cabin. Slip a small tube of lip balm into your bag to keep your lips smooth and hydrated.
We recommend: Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm, Sephora, $32.50
These are our 10 favourite lip balms for smooth lips.
3. Eye drops
Contact lens wearer or not, this advice applies to everyone. A small bottle of artificial tears will work wonders during a flight, saving you from stinging and red eyes.
We recommend: Systane Eye Drops, Shoppers Drugmart, $15
4. Eye cream
Jumping on a red-eye flight? The lack of sleep can take a toll on your skin. A moisturizing and revitalizing eye cream will be your best ally against puffy eyes.
Note: Avoid wearing make-up when flying to allow the skin to breathe.
We recommend:
- Paula's Choice C5 Super Boost Vitamin C Eye Cream, Sephora, $55
- Neutrogena Hydro Boost Caffeine Eye Gel Cream, Shoppers Drugmart, on sale for $28 (was $37)
5. Hand cream
On a long flight, you almost always end up with cracked, dry skin on your hands. A small tube of your favourite hand cream will keep your skin soft. Plus, they often smell delicious!
These are our top moisturizers for dry hands.
We recommend: L'Occitane Nourishing Shea Butter Hand Cream, Sephora, $40
6. Reusable water bottle
Drinking enough water is the secret to feeling good during a flight. But it's hard to stay hydrated by relying solely on the mini water cups served on board most aircraft. Plus, it's not environmentally friendly. Make sure to pack a reusable bottle with you. If it's empty, it will go through airport security without a problem, regardless of its size, and you can refill it before boarding.
Tip: You can also ask the flight attendants to refill your water bottle.
We recommend: Silicone Collapsible Water Bottles (Set of 2), Amazon, $22
Note: Remember that only gel and liquid containers of less than 100mL are allowed in the cabin, and that all your bottles and tubes must fit into a transparent 1L bag.
