What to binge-watch on Netflix
I recently got Netflix and my life has been forever altered. I know I'm a little late to the Netflix bandwagon but I'm a quick learner and have discovered the beauty of binge-watching TV
—it's a must when there is a polar-vortex and you want to stay inside where it's warm. Of course, you're probably wondering what I am binge-watching? Well I am watching hours of what I think is the
best show on television...
Heartland! My mom and sister have been fans of this show since it started seven years ago, but I'm allergic to horses so I've never seen the appeal of a show about life on a ranch. But then I discovered Netflix and was perusing to find something to watch one night. I stumbled upon
Heartland and thought I would kill some time by watching one episode. It's now a month later and I've watched all six seasons. I should probably feel ashamed at how much I've binged, but I don't because
Heartland is amazing. The show revolves around the Heartland ranch, owned by rancher Jack, who lives with his granddaughters Amy and Lou. Amy is known as the Miracle Girl for her ability to heal horses. Drama ensues as the women re-connect with their father and attempt to find love. It's perfection! But if you need more enticement to watch this show, here are four reasons why
Heartland is a great show to binge-watch on Netflix.
1. It's Canadian I firmly believe as Canadians we should support
Canadian talent and
Heartland is chocked full of it. All the actors are Canadian and the show is shot in
High River and Calgary. You should watch the show just to see the beautiful scenery. It's also really nice to learn about life in Alberta. I'm a city girl who is allergic to horses so I don't know much about farm life. But my mom grew up on a farm so it's fun to get a glimpse of farm life. Of course the TV version of life is always much prettier than reality, but the show is still educating me about life in a different province.
2. It's a family show I watch this show every Sunday with my mom and it's such a nice way for us to bond. My sister watches it too when she's home. I love a show that manages to be dramatic and intriguing while not being full of nudity. There is nothing worse than watching a show with your family and being embarrassed at what's on the screen. So many shows are all about nudity and sex, which is fine and definitely has it's place in my TV schedule. But it's so lovely on a Sunday night to indulge in some wholesome TV. Well maybe not wholesome, there is definitely a lot of romance in this show, which brings me to the third reason you should watch
Heartland.
3. Romance This show gives me my daily dose of romance! There are so many couples of varying ages so you get such diverse storylines. You have the teenage love
—the bad boy who falls in love with the good girl. There's the married couple dealing with the stress of kids. And the older man trying to find love again after his wife has passed away. I literally am in love with every man on this show
—particularly Graham Wardle as Ty Borden. He's the perfect bad boy with a heart of gold. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but the drama of Amy and Ty getting together will have you re-watching scenes over and over again. And wishing Ty was real so you could marry him.
4. Realistic drama Some dramatic tv shows are so unrealistic
—really
Grey's Anatomy how many horrible things can happen to one hospital? But
Heartland isn't like that. The show revolves around the heartache that comes with every day life
—broken hearts, long distance relationships, unhappy kids and medical emergencies. When the characters go through something you can really relate to them because you've been there yourself. We can all relate to the heartbreak of losing your first love. Those are the reasons why I love
Heartland, but you should watch the show and let me know why you love it. I recommend grabbing a cozy blanket, some
hot chocolate with extra marshmallows and curling up in front of the TV to enjoy a couple of hours on Heartland ranch. You won't regret it.
