What's your favourite Leonard Cohen song? These are ours.
With a career in music and literature spanning decades, it was difficult to choose our favourites. Here's our top picks:
A novelist, a poet, a singer, a song-writer - Leonard Cohen is nothing less than a Canadian legend and his artistry is wide-reaching. These are our favourites from the late, great Cohen.
"One of my favourites is 'Democracy.' And given what’s happening to our neighbours down south, I find myself listening to it again." says our Executive Food Editor, Jennifer Danter.
"My favourite song is the most cliched choice of them all: Hallelujah. But it's just so beautiful!" says Senoir Editor, Stacy Lee Kong.
Grace Toby, Contributing Editor, says one of her favourite quotes comes from the lyrics in "Anthem." "It's a poignant phrase that is especially illuminating during dark times," she says.
"I first heard "Famous Blue Raincoat"–a song Leonard Cohen said he has "never been satisfied with"–in high school and listened to it on repeat for the next couple days. The stripped down guitar melody and poetic lyrics combined with Cohen's rich voice transported me to another time and place and all of these elements come together in a beautiful, powerful way that makes this song one of my all-time favourites," says Kate Wells, Executive Digital Editor
"I really like 'Avalanche' because it is just so classic melancholic Cohen," says Sarah Dziedzic, Editorial Assistant.
