Treats for Toys: Make a Rice Krispies toy treat and get $20 for the Salvation Army
I’m not really a big one for making Rice Krispies treats at my house, but this time I was convinced to give it a whirl with my kiddo for a good cause. Also I learned something new. It’s not “Rice Crispies,” as I’ve seen in written in my mind for my entire life…it’s Rice Krispies! With a K! How is it that I never noticed? Sheesh. I think I should blame my inner copyeditor correcting the spelling in my brain. Nevertheless, if you make a Rice Krispies treat in the shape of a toy, photograph it and upload it to
Rice Krispies site right here, it will donate $20 to the Salvation Army so that a toy can be donated to a child in need. I did it, and it was so easy. I loved that you didn’t have to fill out a form or give your address or any of that nonsense, you only had to upload your treat photo. Here’s our attempt at a race car. It looks like a jalopy, but we don't care! I used a sharp knife to cut the shapes, basically a couple rectangles. My five-year-old and I had fun rolling out fondant and cutting it out into wheels. We used candy-coated chocolate for the tail lights, and squishy candy for the fenders and we also used royal icing to glue the parts together. It was such a memorable, messy kitchen experiment for a great cause! The next day he felt the need to add more blue icing to the top and sides, so really it entertained him two days in a row. Totally worth it.
Will you upload a pic? We'd love to know! -Helen
