Three things to do with your kids on Earth Day
Seven more sleeps until Earth Day! In past years, our community organized a tree planting picnic. We planted trees in the morning and then we were rewarded for all our hard work with face painting, balloon clowns, bouncy castles and a picnic in the park. The kids loved it. Most communities have
Earth Day events starting on April 22nd and continuing throughout the weekend. Check out your city's webpage for a list of events happening in your neighbourhood. I've rounded up a few things you can do with the kids that will get them outdoors, enjoying nature and appreciating our planet and all the beauty it has to offer. KIDS, put on your rain boots, get ready to get dirty and have the time of your life becoming one with nature.
Build a Bug House Since bees, wasps, and flies pollinate 90% of our food supplies, we need to find ways to protect these “good bugs.” What better way to do that than to
Build a Bug House in your own backyard.
Grow your own vegetables What better way to get the kids to eat their veggies than to have them
grow it themselves. They'll also be saving the planet from GHG (green house gases) by reducing the need for transportation and eating local.
Get Outside It's a known fact that spending time outdoors has many health benefits such as feeling more relaxed, breathing better and feeling happier so
grab hold of a few nature buddies and get outside. Together, you will see things that make you feel the wonder and awe of nature.
How do you get the kids involved? Please add to my list in the comments box below. (photo credit: Nancy Menezes)
