Random act of kindness: Police officer buys car seat for young mother instead of ticketing her
A police officer pulled over a young mother for a traffic violation. As he was speaking with her, he noticed that her 5 year old daughter was not seated in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle. The child's mom explained that at the present time she was in no position to make such a purchase as she had recently found herself in a tight financial spot after her fiance lost his job and was diagnosed with cancer. Hearing of this difficult situation, the officer knew that writing a citation wasn't going to solve the problem. Instead he headed over the local Walmart and purchased a booster seat for little girl. "The biggest thing I wanted to do was give the child a reliable and dependable booster seat and giving someone a ticket is not going to fix that. It was the easiest 50 bucks I ever spent.
It’s something that anybody in the same position, in our position, would do. I in no way, shape or form expect to be paid back. It is a 'pay it forward' situation completely." The mom was overwhelmed with his generosity. “For a police officer that could have just given me a ticket, and gotten me in a whole lot of trouble, he, out of the kindness of his own heart and out of his own pockets, did something for me and my family that I’m never gonna forget,” she said. “He did his job and above and beyond that, just to protect a little girl and to help a family that can’t help themselves right now.” She went on to say that the generous officer gave her some much needed hope with his selfless act. Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness allow us to see the light in a darkened world. This officer is definitely living up to the motto "to serve and protect". Photo courtesy of Doug Wertman/Flickr
