Pond Hockey, Eh!
Nothing says Canadian winter like a pond hockey game on a Sunday afternoon in January. I'm fortunate to live near one and as soon as the temperature starts to dip below the freezing mark, I hear little voices asking
"Mommy, when are we going down to the pond". They're not the only eager ones. I love it too. I love that we're able to clear our own patch of ice, call up some friends, lace up our skates and it's game on.
I love that it doesn't matter if you're 5 or 95. If you can strap on some skates and hold a hockey stick, you can join in the fun. Sometimes, when we're all down there, I stand back, away from all the action and take it all in. There's just something so calming and serene, standing on the frozen pond and watching...... My little girl do twirls and pirouettes in her skates, telling me that her feet are happy.
My son concentrating so intently as he grasps hold of the hockey stick and ALMOST shoots the puck into the net....uggg, maybe next time, buddy!
My oldest trying to improve her speed as she races around the makeshift rink.
I know that eventually the winter will seem never ending and we'll all start looking forward to warmer days ahead. But not right now. I hope the weather stays below freezing a little while longer. It's beautiful out here. I'm not ready to come indoors yet.
