Maggie Tails: My dog loves Kate Middleton
I had a bit of an epiphany this week about my dog
Maggie Mae. She
loves Kate Middleton. I'm not sure if my obsession with all things royal rubbed off on her or maybe Maggie sees Kate as a soul sister since my dog thinks she's a Princess. Whatever the reason, my dog loves Kate and here is the proof.
1. She watched the royal wedding Maggie isn't a morning person. Most mornings as I'm rushing to get ready for work, Maggie barely acknowledges my existence. She will be lying on her bed with her eyes half open and she'll give me one wimpy tail wag to signal goodbye. But on the morning of the royal wedding, Maggie was up and watching the TV, despite the fact that it was 4:30 a.m. And not only was she watching, she was trying to get to Kate through the TV. Maggie only interacts with the television when there are animals on it
—she's a big fan of Heartland because there are so many horses to chase through the TV. But in the picture above she is watching and sniffing at Kate and William. Sorry for the dark photo, it was 4:30 and I was half asleep.
2. She's a royal dog Maggie's full name is Maggie Mae, but our vet calls her Princess Margaret. Maggie is rather high maintenance
—she sleeps on a pillow and expects a prime spot on the couch. But Maggie's most royal behaviour is her paw lift. When she wants a treat, she will sweetly raise her paw to show that she's saying "Please." But don't try to shake her paw
—no one touches her paw. She's rather like the Queen in that way, you don't touch the Queen unless she initiates it. And you don't touch Maggie's paw unless she gives it to you. So Maggie may have been born a commoner but she's become royal, much like Kate.
3. She loves a hatinator Remember when
Kate wore a hatinator to
Prince George's christening. Well I think she may have been inspired by Maggie, who rocked this hatinator back in May, months before Kate did. I love putting hats on my dog, but she doesn't appreciate it. But weirdly when I put the
hatinator on, she loved it. She went to the window and looked out, like she was watching her kingdom. Now she just needs to master the royal wave. I'm hoping Kate and Wills come back to Canada soon because Kate has a canine fan waiting to meet her. Maybe Maggie can go on
walks with Kate and George, Maggie loves a good walk. Though she is afraid of strollers, so that may be an issue.
