Kate Middleton’s “screaming child”: All moms have been there
Yesterday Prince Harry—or uncle Harry to baby George—
spoke about his rather loud nephew. Harry is in Antarctica for a charity walk and during a TV interview he said William is “quite jealous I managed to get away from a screaming child.” Now Harry tends to be a joker, so it’s possible he’s exaggerating Prince George’s cries. Unfortunately for mummy Kate, William has confirmed that the future king has quite a pair of lungs on him. Wills has described his son as “loud” and said he and Kate have a “
baby who has a voice to match any lion’s roar.” We can of course speculate that George has
colic, but I think it’s more likely that he just likes to assert his voice. As any parent with a fussy baby can attest to, this is not a fun stage of parenthood. You start to pull your hair out wondering why your
child won’t stop crying. You’ve fed them, changed their diaper and they just woke up from a nap—what more could they possibly want! I’m sure
Kate is like most moms, who try everything they can think of to calm their baby down. There’s the tried-and-true bouncing method. You bounce the baby while you walk. You bounce the baby while you sway. You bounce the baby when they’re happy out of fear they’ll start crying again. Kate probably takes George on lots of car rides—nothing knocks a baby out faster than a moving vehicle. Though
unlike us regular moms, Kate has to take a security team with her for a simple drive around the block. My favourite way to soothe a baby is putting them in a swing. I’m eternally grateful to whoever invented this miracle machine that rocks your cranky little one while you take a minute to cry and then quickly pull yourself together. Whatever method Kate is using, I’m sending her lots of strength to help her through this tough part of parenthood. Don’t worry Kate, every mom has been through this stage—and lived to tell the tale.
