Have you ever Facebook stalked your date? Popular opinion says you have

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey in 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' I've never been a rom-com fan, but the one so-called "chick flick" that I've watched repeatedly is How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Perhaps it's because Hudson plays a magazine editor (what I aspired to be at the time) or because McConaughey takes his shirt off that I chose to overlook the stereotype-laden script. You see, even though Hudson's character is strong, smart and successful, she is cool because she actually likes basketball; she's desirable because she isn't the desperate, clingy, "crazy" woman she pretends to be. The woman that men have managed to brainwash everyone into thinking is real. If that wasn't bad enough, her girlfriend, played by Kathryn Hahn, is that woman. The myth is kept very much alive throughout the film. I was reminded of my distaste for the film's concept recently, after coming across a recent Thought Catalog post: "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2014 Version)." The relationship-killing tips were reminiscent of the weepy, needy antics Hudson's character pulled, yet all very millennial in nature: incessant texting, creating a YouTube montage, changing your Facebook status to "in a relationship" eight days after your first date. In this day and age, you're not given 10 chances to screw up. Singles are much quicker to pull the plug. Times have changed and yet, the stereotype of the single woman hasn't evolved much in the past 11 years. Personally, I've never done anything of the sort, nor do I know anyone who has. The reprehensible behaviour that I have been privy to has been conducted by single (or adulterous) men. I know we ladies aren't perfect, but it's about time men (and women) stopped telling females how to act and how not to act. Have you ever stalked a guy on social media or know anyone who has?
