Grumpy Cat: Turn that smile upside down
The world's grumpiest cat is back to dish her advice in a new book. And it's awful(ly good). Having a bad day? Even worse, having a GOOD day? Well
Grumpy Cat is here to fix that. Grumpy Cat, real name Tardar Sauce, is one of the most recognizable and famous Internet cats. According to Friskies list of the 50 Most Influential Cats, Grumpy is top dog-----er cat, and it's completely understandable why.
Grumpy Cat's second book,
The Grumpy Guide to Life: Observations by Grumpy Cat, is filled with the kind of life observations that make you feel better about yourself. Thankfully, we're not all born grumpy, but lucky for us, Grumpy Cat is here to offer insight on how to grump our way through success/failure, love and friendship,
home and family, nature, happiness... with the goal of ultimately helping us connect with our inner grump. And as Grumpy Cat does, you'll learn to say, "it's awful" in the best way possible. I personally adore dry, sarcastic comedy, so this book just made my day. Every page shows Grumpy's famous frown in various amounts of disapproval, with comments such as "To be or not to be. I think you know my preference."HA! The writing is hilarious, and sometimes cutting. Grumpy's witty comedic writing reminds me of two other fabulous white haired comediennes: Joan Rivers and Bea Arthur from
The Golden Girls. Although to be fair, Tardar was (as Lady Gaga would say) born this way.
One of my favourite pages would be perfect to put up in my kitchen (perhaps even in
the CL Test Kitchen?). It has a photo of Grumpy Cat holding a frying pan and it reads, "Kiss the cook. Go ahead, I dare you." It's the small grumpy truths we all want to say but can't. Instead, all us grumps have a mascot in the form of a tiny cat to say what we can't say aloud. Because she gets away with it! There is a bit of schadenfreude in the comedy, but I think that's what makes this book so likable. It's the book you'll pick up for a laugh on the worst day at work.
So to close, I would like to praise Grumpy Cat and say that this book was awful, terrible, the WORST, and I never want to stop reading it. Grumpy Cat has succeeded at making me laugh. And snort. And giggle. Despite Grumpy's best intentions not to, of course.
The Grumpy Guide to Life: Observations by Grumpy Cat is available at participating bookstores or online in August. And be sure to buy it before Grumpy Cat makes her first-ever Canadian appearance! I can't even handle the thought of seeing her highness in real life! She'll be in Toronto on August 9th, 2014. I feel so awfully excited. [HTML1]
