The answer is NO! You cannot name your baby Nutella.
The court has spoken and the answer is NO! You CANNOT name your baby Nutella. A little girl, born in September in the French city of Valenciennes was given the name NUTELLA. A judge ruled that the parents' decision to name her after a food was against the child's interest.
"The name 'Nutella' given to the child is the trade name of a spread, and it is contrary to the child's interest to be wearing a name like that can only lead to teasing or disparaging thoughts." the court's decision read. After the parents failed to show up to court on an appointed day in November, the judge renamed the baby Ella. Interesting, isn't it? Why didn't the North American courts speak up when names like Apple, North, Yolo and Zeppelin started popping up. Maybe, we should follow France's lead and save these children from a life of ridicule based soley on their chosen names. Having said that, as parents - the ones that will be raising these children - don't we have the final say in what we want to call our children. Haven't we earned that right?
