As we approach the 2nd anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting...I remember :(
Although a bit blurry, this picture will always hold a special place in my heart. There are so many emotions and feeling tied to this image. It's a photo of my daughter and her friend having a giggle-induced slumber fest. There was so much laughter and happiness coming from her room that evening that I was moved to capture the moment. And as perfect as this moment already was, it was made even more endearing because it came on the most somberest of days.
The day was December 14, 2012. It was the day the world mourned the senseless tragedy of the 26 victims (20 of them children between 6 and 7 years old) of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting. It was a day when we all needed to hold our children close...simply because we could. It was a day we were all made too aware that our lives and the lives of our children are truly a gift and that nothing lasts forever. It was a horrible day and yet I was witness to the most beautiful sound that evening...the sweet giggles and laughter of little girls, the unabrided innocence of pure joy. It was, hands down, the absolute sweetest sound imaginable that day. In a world filled with so much pain, I'm thankful for moments such as these. I just wish those parents could continue to experience them too.
RIP sweet children of Sandy Hook. You will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you...
always.
