2014 Governor General's Award recipients announced
Today, the
Canadian Council for the Arts announced the winners of the 2014 Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts, which honour Canada's best and brightest contemporary artists and artistic contributors. This year's eight recipients are: sculptor Kim Adams (Toronto), weaver and notebook keeper Sandra Brownlee (Saidye Bronfman Award recipient, Dartmouth, NS), visual artist Max Dean (Toronto, work pictured below), performance and installation artist Raymond Gervais (Montreal), photographer and visual artist Angela Grauerholz (Montreal), media artist Jayce Salloum (Vancouver, work pictured above), curator Brydon Smith (Ottawa), and painter Carol Wainio (Ottawa).
Gov. Gen. David Johnston will present the awards, produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, to recipients on March 26. Canadians can view a selection of the artists' works at a special National Gallery of Canada exhibition in Ottawa, held March 28 to July 6.
