A heartening event that will inspire you as much as it will your kids
A Canadian event for those bringing about change in the world.
WE Day is the manifestation of the WE movement, an ocean of people coming together to create a better world. It's an event that inspires change and compassion for all. Below, everything you need to know.
What is WE Day?
WE Day is the Olympics for change-makers. The Academy Awards for real people who are making a difference. It’s a powerful, life-changing experience. WE Day events happen in cities across Canada and around the world, with tens of thousands of youth, schools and families gathered together under one roof to celebrate the world-changing impacts of themselves and others.
Where and when does it take place?
The first WE Day was held at Toronto’s Ricoh Coliseum in 2007, with almost 8,000 youth and educators in attendance. This year, WE Day Toronto will take over the Scotiabank Arena on September 20, with more than 17,000 people expected to attend, before continuing on to 17 cities across the United States, Canada, the UK and the Caribbean.
How do I get a ticket?
You can’t buy a ticket to WE Day—youth have to earn their way there by taking action on one local and one global cause they are passionate about. Whether raising awareness on cyberbullying, hosting a bake sale to send a child in Kenya to school, holding a food drive for a neighbouring shelter or collecting change to help a community in Ecuador gain access to clean water, service is the key to getting to WE Day.
What happens at the event?
A-list celebrities and performers, inspiring speakers and world leaders pack the WE Day stage to inspire, educate and honour the incredible youth in the audience. Past guests have included Jennifer Aniston, John Stamos, Prince Harry and Alicia Keys. WE Day’s motivational speeches and show-stopping performances add up to a once-in-a-lifetime experience. One minute Jennifer Aniston is sharing the stage with March For Our Lives co-founders Jaclyn Corin and Cameron Kasky, urging the audience to get out and vote, the next Kelly Clarkson is rocking the crowd with her hit song “Stronger.” It’s the surprises and revelations that arise when you bring leaders from different walks of life together that make WE Day unforgettable.
What's the goal of WE Day?
WE Day is all about community—passionate individuals who know that they can achieve more when they work together than they ever could alone. Student advocates are introduced to other young leaders and become inspired to continue creating change at home and around the world. Outside on the blue carpet—WE’s take on the infamous Hollywood runner—speakers and performers like Charlize Theron and Will Ferrell connect with young social advocates to discuss the causes that matter to them. When great minds join forces, spectacular things can happen.
What's the main message?
As local leaders and role models from around the world have their moment on stage, one theme unites them all: compassion can change the world. By the end of WE Day, their personal anecdotes and positive affirmations leave the audience with changed perspectives and the motivation to get doing.
