First-time novelist Fatima Farheen Mirza’s "A Place for Us" is a poignant and emotional read
A beautiful tale about the complex relationships with family and assimilation.
This is quite an epic for a first-time novelist, and even more so for one who’s on the younger side of 30. But Fatima Farheen Mirza’s A Place for Us manages to cover a lot of emotional ground in this story of a Muslim family who lives in California. Written from multiple perspectives, and told over the lifespan of the various characters, this family drama has all you’ve ever wanted in a blockbuster book: disappointment, triumph, death, angst, betrayal and, above all, love.
A Place for Us (SJP for Hogarth) by Fatima Farheen Mirza, $36.
