Who loves to vacuum? Nobody!
There’s no getting around it, we all have to clean our homes. A clean home is a healthy home, which is especially important now, with so many of us working from our house and kids studying online too. But here’s a secret: The right central vac can make this chore faster, better and easier!
“We love our central vac!” For sure you’ve heard friends and family talk about the benefits of their central vacuum. And what’s not to love? Loads of power, no cords, no heavy vacuum cleaner unit to lug around and much less noise than a traditional vacuum cleaner. And the Retraflex® retractable hose system means no more hose to carry, now it can be stored in the wall.
Hold on, though! Not every central vacuum is the same. We asked the experts at Cyclo Vac, a manufacturer of vacuum cleaners located in Quebec for more than 50 years, for solid info and some good tips.
Why Get a Central Vac?
There are several advantages of a central vac system, and three main reasons to invest in one:
1. Performance A good vacuum is one with high velocity and powerful suction force, along with excellent filtration, leaving your floors and/or carpets clean of dust and debris. Central vacs are much more powerful than traditonal canister models. And central vacuums are durable, they have a lifespan of 15 years and more!
2. Ease of Use The best part? Since the collection unit and motor are located in a basement or garage, you don’t have to lug around a heavy vacuum cleaner. Bonus: This cuts down on noise too. And, unlike more traditional systems where you have to carry the hose with you around the house and store it, features like Cyclo Vac’s Retraflex® hose retracts inside the wall in seconds. Depending on the square footage of your home, you can opt for a hose length of 30, 40, 50 or even 60 feet that retracts automatically!
3. Air quality With all of us spending more time than ever in our homes, we are more concerned about air quality. One of the best things about a central vac is that it does not throw dust particles into living areas. And with an exterior exhaust, the small amounts of dust that get through the multiple-stage filters are eliminated, unlike a standard vacuum cleaner, which can re-deposit dust on your carpet and furniture.
Why Pick Cyclo Vac?
In addition to being much more powerful and efficient than canister, upright or stick vacuum cleaners, Cyclo Vac’s central vacuum system is a quality product with a 10-year warranty – and up to 25 years in some cases. It’s peace of mind too, as you won’t have to worry about repairs or replacement after a few years. What’s more, a central vacuum in your home will add value if you ever sell your property. The best part? Cyclo Vac has the largest network of authorized dealers (Cyclo Vac experts) in Canada. You can count on after-sales service in every major city in Canada.
Choosing the Right Central Vac
Do you live in a two-storey single-family home or a four-room condominium? The needs are obviously not the same, depending on the number of floors, cubic feet and whether you opt for the retractable hose option. Cyclo Vac includes models for every type of home, and choosing the right model will get you the best results. Here are a few things to consider:
The type of home: There are many high-performance appliance choices for residential use available. For apartments and condos, opt for a more compact and quieter model. Cyclo Vac’s compact models take almost no room, but still offer amazing power and performance. For single-family houses, whether you’re looking for a quiet or eco-friendly unit, a wide selection of models are available.
The floor covering: If your floors are carpeted, it’s better to choose a model with higher suction power to remove dust and debris effectively. As well, accessories specially designed for cleaning carpets can make a big difference.
The area to be cleaned: Contrary to popular belief, the size of the area to be cleaned is not as important as the number of floors in your house, the length of the duct system and that of the hose, as well as the number of outlets needed to cover the entire surface in your home. Keep in mind that for each additional floor or inlet, the piping system will get longer, which will automatically increase the volume of air when vacuuming. That’s why a higher air flow will be required to maintain maximum suction strength and efficient cleaning performance. Note: This is also true for the length of your hose. That’s why it’s often preferable to add another inlet to your installation than to use a longer hose.
Can a central vac be installed in an existing home?
Yes, absolutely! You can install it yourself or opt for professional installation. It’s totally possible to install a central vacuum system in a new construction, but also in an existing house, especially when a home is being renovated. In fact, more than 300,000 homes in Canada are “pre-fab,” with a piping system in the walls already, so all that remains is to install the power unit and hook up to the existing system.
