Spring Cleaning: 5 spots almost everyone forgets to clean!

Spring cleaning is a task that everyone can relate to and just when you think you’re done, you realize there are some spots in your home that you totally missed.

Here’s a list of some of the spots that even the best cleaning pros miss sometimes, along with some tips on how to tackle the clean-up challenge.

1. Vents, Ceiling Fans & Pod Lights

There are wall vents behind couches and floor vents that dogs and kids run over every day and you may also have ceiling fans that you likely haven’t really looked closely at for a very long time. With the small brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner vacuum hose thoroughly vacuum the vents behind your couches and then remove the floor vents and vacuum inside the aluminum tubing. For the ceiling fan and recessed ceiling lights, use an extendable duster to remove the dust and grime from the blades and the light pods.

2. Front & Top Load Washing Machines

Clean clothes start with a clean machine and many people don’t realize that dirt and grime build up inside their washing machine. This gross residue makes clothes smell funky and it can even ruin your washer. You should be cleaning your machine once a month using Tide Washing Machine Cleaner. This product provides a deep clean that will remove dirt, odours, mould and residue, due to its superior oxygenated formula. The fresh new scent will bring springtime into your laundry room and your clothes and washing machine will be truly clean.

3. Your Mattress

Washing your sheets and mattress cover doesn’t prevent dust from getting into the crevices in your mattress. Sprinkle the mattress with some baking soda, grab a handheld vacuum and do a deep clean of your mattress. This should be done every six months.

4. Makeup & Junk Drawers

Out of sight, out of mind; however, these drawers are likely filled with expired products or items that you no longer use, as well as items that haven’t seen the light of day, since long before the pandemic settled in. Now is the time to purge, clean the drawers with sanitized wipes and line them with fresh shelf paper, before putting back only the essential items that you need.

5. Garbage Cans & Recycling Bins

When was the last time you gave these a thorough cleaning? Put these items in the bathtub or shower stall and fill with warm, soapy water. Give them a good scrub and hot water rinse and wipe with some disinfectant and watch the germs and bacteria sail down the drain.

Once you have tackled these overlooked spots, you will love your clean home and then you can get outside and enjoy the springtime!
