Option 1: Patons Classic Merino Wool (100 g)
• Contrast A (00224 Grey Mix): 3 (3, 3) balls
• Contrast B (00218 Peacock): 1 (1, 1) ball
• Small amounts of: Contrast C (77134 That's Blue), Contrast D (00220 Bottle Green), Contrast E (00209 Old Rose), Contrast F (00207 Rich Red), Contrast G (77023 Camel), Contrast H (00204 Old Gold), Contrast I (00226 Black), Contrast J (00202 Aran), Contrast K (00227 Taupe).

• Sizes 4 mm (US 6) and 4.5 mm (US 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension.

Tension
20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

Notes:
• When working Fair Isle technique, carry yarn not in use loosely across wrong side of work but never over more than 5 sts. When it must pass over more than 5 sts, weave it over and under colour in use on next st or at centre point of sts it passes over. The colours are never twisted around one another.

• When working colour blocking technique, wind small balls of the colours to be used, one for each separate area of colour in the design. Start new colours at appropriate points. To change colours, twist the two colours around each other where they meet, on wrong side, to avoid a hole.

BACK and FRONT
With smaller needles and A, cast on 67 (71, 77) sts.
Row 1 (RS): KB1. *P1. KB1. Rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: P1. *K1. P1. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep these 2 rows for 2 ins [5 cm], ending with a Row 2.**

Change to larger needles and work in Chart I for Front or in Chart II for Back to end of chart, reading RS rows from right to left and WS rows from left to right.

Sleeves
With smaller needles and A, cast on 35 (37, 39) sts.
Row 1 (RS): KB1. *P1. KB1. Rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: P1. *K1. P1. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep these 2 rows for 2 ins [5 cm], ending with a Row 2 and inc 1 st at centre of last row. 36 (38, 40) sts.

Change to larger needles and work in Chart III to end of chart, reading RS rows from right to left and WS rows from left to right.

FINISHING
Pin garment pieces to measurements. Cover with a damp cloth, leaving cloth to dry.

NECKBAND
Sew raglan seams, leaving back raglan seam open.
With RS of work facing, smaller needles and B, K70 (74, 78) evenly around neck.
Row 1 (WS) *K1. P1. Rep from * around.
Row 2: *K1B. P1. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows for 2.5 ins [6 cm], ending with a WS row. Cast off in ribbing.

Sew back raglan seam. Fold neckband to WS and sew in position.

Key to be read in conjunction with charts
• Background: Work in stocking st with Contrast A.
• Puddles: Work in stocking st and reverse stocking st where marked with
- with Contrast B
• High Boots: Work in stocking st with Contrast F.
• Shoes: Work in stocking st with Contrast H.
• Trousers: Work with Contrast C as follows:
Row 1 (RS): (K1. P1) 3 times. (P1. K1) 3 times.
Row 2: Purl.
Rep these 2 rows to top of Trousers.
• Trousers: Work in reverse stocking st with Contrast K.

• Umbrellas: Work in twist stocking st as given for top with Contrast E or Contrast D and reverse stocking st where marked with -.
• Clouds: Work in stocking st with Contrast A.

Embroidery
Note: where legend refers to 1 or 2 strands, untwist yarn and use one or two plys as stated.
• Work spokes of umbrella in E and D using chain stitch.
• Work ripples in puddles using 1 strand and splashes using 2 strands in B using chain stitch.
• Work raindrops over 2 rows with A using straight stitch.
• Work umbrella shaft and handle with 2 strands in I using chain stitch.
• Work sleeve and trouser leg outline with 1 strand in I using chain stitch.
