Are you used to the clutter of a student's busy life: lunch money, permission slips, bus passes. Keeping all those bits and pieces organized and accessible is the key to an easy early-morning exit. This handy doorknob organizer, made with household items in under 30 minutes, can help you conquer the mess – and make the bus on time.

You need:
• 11.5 x 60 cm (4-1/2- x 24-inch) strip bristol board
• Duct tape in desired colours
• Scissors or craft knife
• Pencil, ruler and compass

To make:
1. From bristol board, cut one 11.5 x 30 cm (4-1/2- x 12-inch) strip for base. Using pencil and ruler and working on right side of board, mark line 1 cm (1/2 inch) in from edge on top and sides. With compass, mark 6.5 cm (2-1/2-inch) diameter circle, centred near top of rectangle. Carefully cut out and discard circle.

2. Measure 7.5 cm (3 inches) from top of remaining piece of bristol board and mark on left side; measure and mark 10 cm (4 inches) on right side. Join marks with diagonal line; cut out to form two pocket pieces. Mark 1 cm (1/2 inch) in from edge on top and sides on both pockets, and from bottom of smaller pocket as well.

3. Aligning edge of tape with pencil line, tape top edges of pocket pieces. Trim tape even with edges.

4. In same manner, apply tape to top edge of base; trim.

5. Aligning edge of tape with pencil line, apply tape to bottom edge of small pocket piece. Stack large pocket piece and base under small pocket piece, aligning edges; tape securely. Trim tape even with edges.

6. In same manner, apply tape to long sides, securing pocket pieces to base and trimming tape ends.

Designer's notes:
• If desired, decorate with stickers or drawings.
• Add additional pockets if you have greater organizing needs.
