Creative Hobbies Are Booming—These 6 Are The Most Popular
Unwind and have a little fun with these trendy crafts.
From crochet to building miniature greenhouses, crafting is a wide and playful landscape.
Michaels, a haven for all types of creatives, just released its 2025 creativity trend report that outlines this year’s biggest craft trends.
"Crafting is no longer just a hobby—it's self-care, a way to connect with friends, personalize your space, and even save money," says Mandi Clark, director of trend & design at Michaels. “From curating tablescapes and balloon arches, to making gift wrap as thoughtful as the gift itself, more people are infusing creativity into everyday moments."
If you’re looking to pick up a new hobby, consider one of these trendy options!
1. Gateway crafts

Etsy, $35
Also known as beginner-friendly crafts, these step-by-step projects and craft kits make learning a new skill easy as pie. Try out a simple paint-by-number, diamond art kit, or freestyle some trinkets with air-dry clay.
2. Emotional support crafts

Etsy, $35 (was $70)
These relaxing crafts are perfect for unwinding and keeping idle hands occupied. From crochet to embroidery, these repetitive activities have been shown to reduce stress.
3. DIY & Dine

Etsy, $27
Happy hour is so last week! Craft parties or hangouts are on the rise with the Millennial and Gen Z crowd. Spend an evening painting candles or making friendship bracelets with your besties.
4. Gifting with love

Etsy, starting at $52
DIY gifts are not only trendy, they’re a heartfelt way to personalize something for a loved one. Customize a tote bag or tumbler, create a charm necklace, or put together a sweet photo album. This trend is also about creative gift wrapping, from hand-painted wrapping paper to reusable baskets.
5. Manifesting with miniatures

Etsy, $185
Small-scale crafts are ultra popular right now, with Michaels reporting searches for miniature kits up by 820 per cent. Create teeny-tiny greenhouses or cafés to hide in your bookshelf, or commit to making an entire village.
6. Dupe-it-yourself décor
Not interested in dropping hundreds of dollars on the hottest decor pick? Simply recreate it yourself! Pick up your craft materials and have fun designing a dupe with your own creativity.
