How to choose the right toss cushions for your home
Our home & style director, Ann Marie Favot, tells you how to choose toss cushions with confidence.
Q: I need some toss cushions for my new sofa. How do I pick them?
Toss cushions are great finishing touches that allow you to add personality to your space. Whatever your style, you’ll be sure to achieve a pleasing arrangement if you consider all five of the categories below.
Pattern: Mix motifs and scale—mini geometric with oversize floral, for instance.
Texture: Incorporate a variety of fabrics, such as linen, velvet (super hot right now!), wool, silk, canvas and suede.
Colour: Select a couple of shades that complement the room’s palette.
Shape: Don’t get cornered into squares; look for rounds and lumbars, too.
Details: Have fun with tassels, sequins, embroidery or fringe.
TIP: Use a mixture of patterns and textures for an eye-catching display.
TRIUMPHANT TRIO
Make a neutral sofa pop by mixing several colours and multiple patterns. I love the winning combination of this bright oversize botanical, muted geometric and plush velvet solid.
