How to brighten up a small, dark bathroom
We provide simple tricks for turning your bathroom into a light-filled, welcoming space.
Q: How can I brighten my small, dark bathroom?
If your bathroom feels more dungeon than day spa, start by maximizing light. Choose sheer window treatments to provide privacy while allowing light to flood in. Don’t have a window? Use mirrors to fake the effect (they’ll bounce light around and visually multiply the space). Next up, try a tonal tune-up: It’s amazing what a dose of white can do to lift a space, but too much of this shade can read as stark, so add it bit by bit. Begin with a quick fix like swapping the bath mat or shower curtain; up the ante by painting the vanity; and, finally, tackle the walls with paint or tiles.
Q: What about paint colours?
Whether you opt for true white or a pale pastel, muted shades are best suited in a room that’s short on square footage and natural light. Here are my top bathroom-ready selections.
Premier Crisp Linen PR16Y01 PAINT, canadiantire.ca. Wimborne White 239 PAINT, farrow-ball.com. Beauti-Tone Frosted Mint WB007-0 PAINT, homehardware.ca.
