PWHL’s Natalie Spooner on healthy habits
100% orange juice is not just refreshing and delicious, it’s also an excellent source of vitamin C, and has other essential nutrients like potassium that help support your health.
It’s a great way to start your day or to add a burst of energy anytime. Florida Orange Juice has all the essential nutrients you need, with none of the ingredients you don’t—that’s why it’s known as The Original Wellness Drink.
But don’t just take it from us. At a recent #OwnYourWellness event in Toronto, Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Canadian superstar Natalie Spooner shared how drinking Florida Orange Juice fits into her routine and improves her well-being. From being crowned MVP in the PWHL’s inaugural season to coping with a devastating semi-final game knee injury, Spooner knows a thing or two about the impact a positive mindset can have on overall wellness.
Supporting yourself—through mindfulness, physical activity, and nutrition—is one of the best ways to stay healthy. Here are three ways you can improve your well-being by incorporating a tasty glass of Florida OJ into your daily routine.
1. Brighten up your morning (& your palate) with a glass of Florida Orange Juice
Start your morning on a high note by taking a moment for yourself and thinking about the day ahead. Whether you journal, practice meditation or yoga, or do some simple stretches, engaging in mindfulness is scientifically proven to improve well-being.
“I own my wellness by trying to always have a positive attitude,” says Spooner. “Whether I’m facing an injury or having a rough day at home, I really try to look on the bright side of things and remember everything I’ve been through to get to now.
We love pairing our morning practice with a healthy breakfast and a refreshing and nutritious 250mL serving of 100% orange juice.
2. Support your immune health
While you can’t always avoid getting sick, it’s important to load up on nutrients year-round to help keep your immune system healthy. One cup of 100% orange juice is rich in vitamin C, is a good source of potassium, and includes other vital nutrients like vitamin B6 and magnesium.
For Spooner, Florida OJ is a key part of her routine to avoid getting sick throughout the hockey season.
“Travelling as a team during the season means that you want to protect yourself against getting sick because when one person goes down, it’s hard to avoid,” says Spooner. “I try to make sure I get all my vitamins in, which includes a glass of 100% orange juice for vitamin C, to help protect my immune system."
3. Make a homemade post-workout drink
Did you know you can make a post-workout drink from the comfort of your own kitchen?
“We’re always looking for ways to get the most bang for our buck when it comes to nutrition,” says Angela Dufour, a sports dietitian who works with the PWHL and Team Canada to optimize nutrition for athletes. “One of the key ways is to replace electrolytes that are being lost throughout the day, and we can use Florida Orange Juice to help with that.”
Dufour recommends mixing half 100% orange juice, half coconut water, and a pinch of salt to create your own electrolyte-filled bevvy. With no added sugar, this combination is hydrating, nourishing, and exactly what your body needs after working hard.
You can find Florida Orange Juice in the refrigerated section at most Canadian grocers.
