Best friends makeover: Month 10

With two months to go in their yearlong Best Friends Makeover, here’s a quick update on Tracy Metcalfe and Tanya Leavitt:
• After several months of searching, Tracy got a job with the Alberta government’s Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped program. She’s happy she held out for a job she really wanted. The “definitely better paying” job, which she found at a government online job board, is a three-month position that “gets my foot in the door.” There are various opportunities within the government, including those related to environmental and sustainable development, areas that interest Tracy.
• Tracy feels great physically and met with the fitness coach to go over strength-training exercises using free weights and her own body – so she doesn’t have to rely on machines.
• Meanwhile, Tanya enjoyed a breakfast workshop that focused on Law of Attraction, a book by Michael Losier. Tanya does exercises from the book (“an example is asking and answering a series of questions designed to illustrate that the things I want are possible”). She also keeps a gratitude journal (“the more you focus on what you are grateful for, the more things you will get to be grateful for”).
• Having tripled her savings, Tanya is planning a trip with friends for January 2009 – to Disneyland or Costa Rica – “which would not have seemed possible six months ago.”
• Tracy and Tanya went to a singles event for an evening of dancing and fun. Tracy has also been out with Chic Chicks, a group of women who get together to do various activities (most recently, they went to Salon Escape in Calgary for free beauty consultations).
