Here's Why You Shouldn't Shower Immediately After A Workout
Taking a shower right after a workout might not be such a good idea. Find out why!
After going for a run, taking a Pilates class or getting back from hot yoga, your first instinct is probably to take a shower—and we totally get it. You want to clean off, relieve your muscles and relax. However, immediately showering after a sweat session may not be what your body needs.
Why Should you wait before showering after a workout?
When you're working out, whether it be a strength training session, a hot yoga class, or a run, you increase your heart rate and body temperature. Jumping in the shower too soon before your body has had a chance to cool down could contract your dilated blood vessels too quickly, overheat your body and cause a sudden drop in blood pressure.
When can you shower after exercising?
Take some time to cool down and let your body come back to its regular temperature naturally. Wait 15-30 minutes if you can. You're looking for your body's temperature to come down to 37 degrees.
