My sister, Susan, loves pancakes, so this sauce makes an ideal gift attached to the recipe for Oatmeal Buttermilk Pancakes. Serve the sauce warm or at room temperature. (It's equally delicious over ice cream!)

Oatmeal Buttermilk PancakesIn saucepan, melt butter over medium heat; cook apple, stirring occasionally, until golden, about 8 minutes.
Add cider, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger; bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer until syrupy, about 12 minutes. Let cool.
Pour sauce into decorative bottle or jar; seal and store in refrigerator. Rewarm to serve. (Make-ahead: Refrigerate sauce for up to 1 month.)
