In shallow dish, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil, ginger and garlic. Trim green onions; add to marinade. Add steak, turning to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 10 minutes or for up to 8 hours.Pour marinade into small saucepan; bring to boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes.
Meanwhile, place steak on greased grill over medium-high heat; close lid and grill, turning once and basting with marinade, until medium-rare, 10 to 12 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes before slicing across the grain.
Meanwhile, grill onions until tender, about 4 minutes.
