Method
In medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add shallot, garlic, bay leaf and thyme; cook, stirring occasionally, about 2 minutes. Add barley; cook, stirring often, 2 minutes. Add broth and bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer until barley is tender, about 40 minutes. Remove pan from heat. Discard garlic, bay leaf and thyme. Stir in green onion; season with salt and pepper.
