Method

In large saucepan of salted water, add potatoes and cook, covered, over medium heat, until tender, 20 to 25 minutes.

Drain potatoes and return to saucepan; add butter. Using potato masher, mash potatoes until smooth. Add buttermilk, season with salt and pepper and mash to combine. Transfer to serving dish and garnish with Fried Sage Leaves. Drizzle with melted butter, if using, and cracked pepper, if desired.

 

Fried Sage Leaves In small skillet over medium heat, heat 1/2 cup vegetable oil. Add 12 sage leaves; cook for 15 to 20 seconds. Using slotted spoon, remove leaves from oil and drain on paper towel-lined plate.
