In saucepan of boiling salted water, cook pasta according to package directions. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water; drain pasta.
Meanwhile, in large skillet over medium-high heat, add bacon and cook, stirring occasionally, until crispy, about 4 minutes. Drain on paper towel-lined plate. Remove all but 2 tbsp bacon grease from skillet.
Add onion to skillet; cook, stirring occasionally, for 2 minutes. Add garlic; cook for 1 minute. Stir in half of the reserved pasta water. Stir in reserved pasta and bacon; cook for 2 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in Parmesan until melted. (Add a little more pasta water to reach desired consistency, if necessary.) Season with pepper. Sprinkle with Parmesan and fresh basil.
